Military Competency

Initial U.S. Commercial Pilot Certifications for “MILITARY” pilots, can be issued after you receive your Military wings.  New Type Ratings, and Flight Instructor certificates, can be issued as well, based on your Military experience.  Please note, you will need to take either the Military Competency Airplane (MCA), Military Competency Helicopter (MCH), or the Military Competency Instructor (MCI) test, before you can make an appointment.

Once you have made the appointment, you will need to do the following:

1.  Create an online account through IACRA.  The Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application is a FAA web based program that will speed up the process for certification.

All certifications will eventually be through IACRA.

2.  Once you have created your account, complete the online 8710-1 application in order to expedite your appointment.

Military personnel may use a permanent address such as a family member's house, as a reliable address where your certificate can be mailed.  Once it's received by them, they can send it to wherever you are.

Below you will find more information about the website itself:

The Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application is a FAA web based airman application:

“IACRA processes applications for airman certification via the web. IACRA interfaces with multiple FAA national databases to validate data and verify specific fields.  IACRA automatically ensures applicants meet regulatory and policy requirements through business rules and data validation.  It implements use of digital signatures throughout the certification process.  IACRA automatically forwards your 8710-1 application and your test results to the Airman Registry.  No paper documents are sent to the Registry!”(https://iacra.faa.gov/IACRA/FAQ.aspx)
